Key points

  • Five producers lead a fragmented market: Dextra (tunnelling, Middle East), Pultrall (North American bridges), Mateenbar/Pultron (US and Gulf structural plus big-box flatwork), Schöck (German-approved rail and research buildings) and Neuvokas (high-speed US flatwork).
  • Every leader publishes guaranteed force by size, modulus, strain, shear and bond with the mean-minus-three-sigma definition; the modulus tier (46, 50 or 60 GPa) is read as the quality tier.
  • US and Canadian public work runs through ICC-ES reports, DOT producer lists, CSA S807 Grade III and Buy America; an imported bar competes in private, precast, marine and overseas projects instead.
  • Qualify a supplier on seven items, and treat any claim of ICC-ES, DOT, CE or DIBt approval without a report number as a disqualifier.

AI summary: three engineering takeaways

On this page

Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebar is a small industry with a long list of producers. A 2018 review counted 27 manufacturers in 14 countries, and analysts put the five leading companies at only 15 to 20% of a global market worth about USD 0.5 to 0.8 billion in 2025, depending on whether basalt bars are counted. Nobody owns the market. The leaders win on approvals, published data and proximity to the owner, not on tonnage. This guide summarizes what the five most visible producers publish and do, and turns it into a checklist for qualifying any supplier, including an exporter such as F1 Composite.

The five leading producers and how they position

Two things stand out. First, every producer publishes the same table: guaranteed tensile force for each size, defined as the mean minus three standard deviations, with modulus, ultimate strain, transverse shear and bond. Second, the market reads the modulus as the quality tier. ASTM D7957 requires 44.8 GPa; the leaders sell 46 GPa bars for flatwork and ordinary structures and 60 GPa bars (CSA S807 Grade III) for bridges, barriers and anything an Ontario, Texas or Ohio owner buys.

Owens Corning, long the most visible name in US fiberglass rebar, is no longer in the list. Its PINKBAR+ line is discontinued, its Pultron joint venture has reverted to Mateenbar, and the glass reinforcements business was sold to Praana Group in May 2026.

Where each one sells, and what that means for an importer

Specification selling to owners. Pultrall and Mateenbar live on state DOT producer lists, CSA designated-source listings and the AASHTO plant audits behind them. Since October 2025, Buy America rules apply to GFRP on federally funded work, which is why Pultrall opened an Ohio plant in 2026 and why Mateenbar advertises its North Carolina plant as compliant. This channel is closed to an imported bar and will stay closed.

Engineered packages. Dextra sells soft-eyes, couplers and training as one scope; Schöck sells a design method through its German approval and software integration. An importer competes inside these packages only as a bar supplier to the contractor's designer, with full test data for every size.

Distribution and retail. Mateenbar's Greenbar2X and Neuvokas' GatorBar sit on Home Depot and Lowe's shelves at roughly $0.45 to $0.85 per foot for No. 3 and No. 4 bars in October 2026, and dealer networks carry Pultrall's flatwork line. This is the largest volume channel and the one where price per foot, stable supply and a clean datasheet decide the order.

Project tenders outside North America. The Jizan flood channel in Saudi Arabia, described as the largest GFRP project built, was split between Mateenbar and Dextra against Saudi Aramco's engineering standards, which now mandate GFRP in corrosion-risk concrete. Gulf, African, Asian and Latin American owners specify project by project with a third-party test package, and this is where an exporter with honest data competes directly with the leaders.

How the leaders price

North American producers quote per linear foot by bar size in 20 ft sticks, bends per piece; Ontario's ministry pays GFRP as a lump-sum item. Europe and the Gulf quote per metre or per kilogram by diameter in 6 m and 12 m bars. Published retail anchors in October 2026 ran from about $0.25 to $0.85 per foot for No. 3 and No. 4 bars and above $1 per foot for structural No. 5 and No. 6 bars; project and DOT prices are quoted, not listed. On a per-pound basis GFRP costs several times steel; per foot it sits near epoxy-coated steel and well below stainless. Our cost-per-foot guide shows how to compare offers per certified area rather than per foot.

Seven items that qualify any GFRP rebar supplier

  1. Guaranteed force for every size you will buy, with the laboratory, the test method (ASTM D7205 or ISO 10406-1) and the edition stated, and the mean-minus-three-sigma definition used. A single "tensile strength" without a size is a marketing number.
  2. Modulus tier. 46 GPa or 60 GPa, stated as a guaranteed or mean value per size. Design is governed by stiffness, so this is the number that changes the bar area.
  3. Resin and glass disclosure. E-CR glass with a vinyl ester or epoxy matrix for permanent works; polyester only where the use is temporary, as Dextra states on its own range. Ontario's specification makes this mandatory.
  4. Durability data. Moisture absorption, alkali resistance with retained strength, glass transition temperature and degree of cure to ASTM D7957 or the CSA D1 protocol. These are cheaper than an approval and are what an engineer actually reads.
  5. Bent-bar data. Test results for the bent portion to ASTM D7914, shape capability and minimum bend radii. The bent portion only has to reach 60% of the straight bar, and some tests show far less for large diameters.
  6. Lot traceability. Bar marking, production-lot certificates with five specimens per lot, and the link from bundle label to certificate.
  7. A plain statement of approvals. ICC-ES, DOT, CSA designated source, ETA or DIBt are producer-specific. A supplier should state the report number or say clearly that none is held. Treat an implied approval as a disqualifier.

The GFRP rebar standards page lists the document to request against each standard, and the specification guide shows how to write the three layers into a project specification.

Where F1 Composite stands

F1 Composite is the export company of FengDu New Material, which makes GFRP rebar in two modulus grades, GFRP 45 and GFRP 60, alongside the pultruded profiles and grating F1 sells. We publish the inquiry size range, Ø6 to Ø36 mm, and confirm the grade, resin, measured area, guaranteed force and modulus for the bar actually offered, with third-party test reports and lot certificates against the project's standard and edition. We do not hold ICC-ES, DOT, CSA designated-source, ETA or DIBt listings, and we say so before a project relies on one. The segments where that position competes are marine and coastal concrete, precast, slabs and pools, water and chemical plants, MRI and rail facilities and overseas tenders, which the GFRP rebar applications page covers one by one. Send a bar schedule or a technical question through the GFRP rebar page and the seven items above are what the reply will address.

GFRP rebar manufacturer questions

Who are the largest GFRP rebar manufacturers?

Analysts name Dextra Group (Thailand, China, India), Pultrall (Canada, now also Ohio), Mateenbar and its parent Pultron (New Zealand, United States, UAE, Saudi Arabia), Schöck (Germany) and Neuvokas (United States) among the leaders, with the top five holding only about 15 to 20% of the market between them. Owens Corning's PINKBAR+ line is discontinued and its reinforcements business was sold in 2026.

What modulus should a structural GFRP bar have?

ASTM D7957 requires at least 44.8 GPa. Leading structural bars publish 46 GPa (Pultrall V-ROD 46, Mateenbar Greenbar2X, GatorBar), 60 GPa (V-ROD 60, Mateenbar60, Schöck Combar, CSA S807 Grade III) and in Dextra's ICC-ES report about 65 to 68 GPa. Ontario, Texas and Ohio DOT require the 60 GPa class for their work.

Can a Chinese GFRP rebar factory hold ICC-ES or DOT approval?

Only by going through the same audits as a domestic producer. Dextra's Guangdong plant holds an ICC-ES report; no other Chinese producer's report was found in October 2026. DOT producer lists additionally require Buy America compliance on federally funded work, which an import cannot meet. Ask any supplier for the report number or a plain statement that none is held.

How do I compare a GFRP supplier's datasheet with a leader's?

Line up the same seven items: guaranteed force per size with the laboratory and edition, modulus, strain, transverse shear, bond, moisture and alkali data, bent-bar data, the resin and glass type, and the approvals held. A datasheet that quotes only ultimate or mean values, or a tensile strength without a size, has not been qualified to the standard's definition.
